Teachers from North Lanarkshire got all fired up at their recent Critical Skills Outdoor CPD event as they achieved their challenge of lighting a fire and keeping it going for ten minutes.
The Critical Skills Outdoor CPD course is all about working with cheap and simple loose materials, with the aim of demonstrating an exciting programme of practical outdoor activities that generate meaningful experiment and invention, creativity and construction.
“It was brilliant to work with North Lanarkshire teachers and the sense of achievement when completing a challenge was really rewarding,” said Judi Legg, Wildside in Scotland. “We worked together to collect tinder, used billhooks to create kindling, operated fire steels and of course did our risk assessments. There was a lot going, including site identification, extinguishing, and then leaving no trace but the rewards were great and so, of course, were the marshmallows!”
There are four training courses left this year:
Please book these courses through your North Lanarkshire CPD Manager. There are just a few places left, and there is the possibility of joining the waiting/cancellation list. Sessions will continue to be repeated where there is demand.
